Note: While true poaching involves simmering water, this air fryer method creates a similar tender-cooked egg with runny yolk using little silicone cups. It’s quick, hands-off, and mess-free!
Ingredients & Tools
· Fresh large eggs (as fresh as possible for best shape)
· Cooking spray, butter, or a drop of oil
· 2-4 small silicone muffin cups or ramekins (heat-safe)
· Water (about ½ teaspoon per cup)
Instructions
Prepare the air fryer:
· Place silicone cups in the air fryer basket.
· Lightly grease each cup with spray, butter, or oil.
Add water and egg:
· Add about ½ teaspoon of water to each cup (this creates steam for a tender egg).
· Carefully crack 1 egg into each cup.
· For a firmer white, you can pierce the yolk very gently with a toothpick (optional).
Cook:
· Air fry at 270°F (130°C) for 6–8 minutes.
· Check at 6 minutes: the white should be set, and the yolk should be runny. Cook 1–2 minutes longer for a firmer yolk.
Remove and serve:
· Use a spoon to gently lift the egg out of the cup.
· Season with salt, pepper, and your favorite toppings.
· Serve immediately over toast, avocado, or with breakfast sides.
Tips for Success
· Fresh eggs work best as they hold their shape better.
· Don’t skip the water – it’s key for preventing rubberiness.
· Temperature matters: Use a lower temperature (270°F) to avoid overcooking or puffing.
· For easier release: Grease the cups well and let the egg sit for 30 seconds after cooking before removing.
· Batch cooking: Cook up to 4 eggs at once, but avoid overcrowding the basket to ensure even heat.
Serving Ideas
· On top of avocado toast
· Over a bowl of steamed veggies or hash
· As a protein boost on a grain bowl
· With a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning, chives, or hot sauce
Enjoy your perfectly tender, fuss-free eggs! They’re a game-changer for easy breakfasts or meal prep.
