Fried Milk Cubes (Crispy Cream Bites)
Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp butter
For coating & frying:
- ½ cup flour
- 1 egg (beaten)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (or cornstarch for a lighter coating)
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions:
- Make the Cream Base:
- In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and pudding-like.
- Stir in butter until smooth.
- Chill & Cut:
- Pour mixture into a greased dish, spread evenly, and refrigerate for 2–3 hours (or until firm).
- Once set, cut into cubes.
- Coat the Cubes:
- Roll each cube in flour → dip in beaten egg → coat with breadcrumbs.
- Fry:
- Heat oil to medium-high.
- Fry cubes until golden brown and crispy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Drain on paper towels.
- Finish:
- Dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or chocolate sauce for dipping.
